History

Northern portion of Barangay Carael is a forest area with Camachile trees. Immigrants occupied the area usually gather fruits of Camachile and sell in the town proper. They usually barter their camachile fruits with other foods they need to sustain their living. During full moon, they gather camachile fruit in a first come basis since the trees were grown wild that no one owns the trees. Whoever arrives early to gather claim that they harvest belongs to him/her or “caniak” and because it is bright during the full moon or “naraniag” the eventually called the place “Caniag”.
