Born on August 1, 1964 in Barangay Surgui 2nd, Camiling, Tarlac. Reared by his loving parents, Mr. Enrique Guting Agustin and Mrs. Rosenda Domingo Clemente-Agustin. They gave him the heart to understand the needs of the people he looks after now. Drawing inspiration from wife Joyce Benitez Agustin, this man of simplicity runs his areas of responsibility smoothly.
He had become the person he is now partly because of the virtues and values nurtured in him during his education at Camiling North Elementary School where he received the award of an Outstanding Pupil. At Camiling Colleges for High School, he graduated with High Honors. In 1985 he finished a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Major in Accounting from the University of the East. A scholar (Dean’s List) and a Finalist in the Search for the Best in Accounting.
On that same year, he passed the CPA Licensure Examination, eventually becoming a Certified Public Accountant. In 1986 to 1989, he first worked as Junior Auditor in SYCIP, GORRES VELAYO & Co., CPAs.
He first got his chance to work in the local government of Camiling in 1998, when he was elected Municipal Councilor. Here, he proved his leadership by chairing the Committee on Appropriations. He also had the Vice-Chairmanship in the Committee on Ways & Means.
Alongside with being an elected official, he joined Camiling Jaycees more commonly known as the “Tangguyob” Jaycees, an organization that provides development opportunities that empower young people to create positive change. He was elected as its President in 2001. During his leadership, Camiling “Tangguyob” Jaycees received an Award of Excellence.
On the same year, he was re-elected as Municipal Councilor garnering the most number of votes. In the Sanggunian, he was the Minority Floor Leader; Chairman of the Committee on Ways & Means; and Vice-Chairman in Committees on Education; Personnel; and Public Works, Transportation & Communication. During these years, he worked in drafting legislations.
In his desire to help, he was voted again among the top Municipal Councilors in 2007. He was the Majority Floor leader; Chairman of the Committees on Appropriations and Education & Cultural Affairs; and Vice Chairman of the Committees on Laws, Rules & Investigation; Women & Family; and Public Works, Transportation &Communication.
Aside from authoring and sponsoring resolutions and ordinances, he served as Board Member – Ex-Officio when he was elected as the Provincial Federation President of the Philippine Councilors League – Tarlac Chapter. He also served as the Secretary General for Luzon and the Regional Secretary General of the same organization in Region III.
His stint as 3-term Councilor speaks for itself. A career in politics and public service was even furthered since his assumption to office in June 2007 as Camileños elected him overwhelmingly as Municipal Vice-Mayor and Presiding Officer of the Sangguniang Bayan.
Since then, he has presided over the passage of countless resolutions and ordinances whose primary concern is the welfare of Camileños.
On his second term as Vice-Mayor and in spite of heavy work load demanded by the Sangguniang Bayan he found time to pursue higher studies and enrolled at the Lyceum-Northwestern University and took up Master in Public Administration and graduated in April 2012.
His meritorious public service record, passionate dedication as a devoted public servant and an unblemished record in public service made him won for the third time the Vice-Mayoralty race in 2013 and as Municipal Mayor in 2016.
Thus, at present, he continuously works and wastes no time for the welfare and needs of Camiling’s citizenry. He spearheads several Mass Blood Donation, Dental and Medical Missions, Feeding Programs, and Libreng Gupit, Pedicure and Manicure in the barangays of our town. Free Civil Service Review, 1st Paskua ti Camiling, NakoloRUN and PlaZALA are some of his many milestone projects. These are just some of the many ways on how he reaches the people, on how he delivers public service almost right through everyone’s doorsteps.
As his way of giving back to the community that made him the man that he is today, not the Accountant, not the ex-Councilor or former Ex-Officio Board Member nor as our town’s Mayor, but as “Erlon Clemente Agustin: The Public Servant”, he assures everyone that more still has to come in keeping his commitment to do his very best in serving all of us.
